The Liverpool Anchorage Club was founded in 1968 by the Marine Superintendent of Coast Lines, Captain Richard Case, and his Assistant

Captain Ronnie Morrison. The initial meeting was held in a pub, and subsequent meetings were held at Kingston House, James Street, the then home of the Mersey Mission to Seamen.

Later the Club moved to various hostelries and then settled in our present home, the iconic Adelphi Hotel, meanwhile recruiting retired Seafarers of various ranks.

Presently the membership stands at almost ninety, mainly comprised of ex-Seafarers but with a few landlubbers, who are more than welcome. We meet on the second Wednesday of every month at 12 noon. In the second half of the meeting we have a guest speaker and the future ones are listed below.

The meetings usually last about three hours. Guests and new members are welcome and if you contact Ian (telephone number given below), he will arrange for you to be met on the steps of the Adelphi Hotel and taken into the meeting and introduced to the members.

We have two Lunches a year; a Hot-Pot Lunch in March and a Christmas Lunch in December. We have two coach outings a year; one in June when we meet up with our friends from the Tyne Area Shipping Club, and a Ladies' Outing in September. This year the June trip was an enjoyable outing to the National Rail Museum at York, and the Ladies' trip was to Powys Castle at Welshpool.

If you are interested in attending, please phone the Treasurer, Ian Moyes, on (0151)-334-8242 for further details.

Membership is £15 annually.
